Over the next few months, I’m planning to write a series of short books for the new Diploma in Sound Therapy course that we are offering in 2014.
In the past I‘ve found that writing books like this involves a personal journey of exploration, discovery and transformation. It can be immensely rewarding, and it can also be immensely challenging and frustrating!
The biggest challenge for me is to stick to writing and not get too distracted by other things going on in my life. The frustration happens when I feel that I’m not finding the words to fully express what I think and mean.
So this time around I thought that it would be good to share this journey with you by regularly (at least once a week) writing up my thoughts, ideas and insights as I go along, putting them on our website as a blog and sending it out as emails and even posting on social media like Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+..!
In doing this I hope to give you, the reader, some interesting and valuable information about sound therapy that you can apply in your own practice and personal life.
At the same it will help me to keep focussed on this task of writing the books. Also, if you feel inclined, you can get involved in this process by sending me feedback on what I’m writing so that I can refine and expand what I’ve written to express things more clearly.
To begin with, I want to explore more fully the ‘intent’ part of the formula put forward by Jonathan Goldman, one of the main pioneers of sound healing in the USA:
Frequency + Intent = Healing
Frequency refers to the sound being created from instruments and voice
Intent relates to the energy or consciousness behind the sound
Healing is the desired outcome
In my experience as a therapist and teacher, making sounds on their own can have a healing effect. Setting a strong intent on its own can also have a healing effect. Putting the two together creates powerful healing outcomes.
The more we understand and work with the dynamics of Intent, the deeper the healing and the more effective our sound therapy practice will be. So in this initial set of posts, I’ll be exploring questions like:
* What is intent?
* What are the key elements in creating an effective intent for healing?
* How we develop the ability to become more effective sound therapists by working with the power of intent?
And I thought that there’s no better place to start this exploration of Intent than the books of Jonathan himself.
Over the years I’ve collected all 5 of his books that he authored or co-authored:
“Healing Sounds – The Power of Harmonics”, 1992
“Shifting Frequencies – Sounds for Vibratory Activation”, 1998
“Chakra Frequencies: Tantra of Sound”, with Andi Goldman, 2004
“The 7 Secrets of Sound Healing”, 2008
“The Divine Name – The Sound That Can Change The World”, 2010
So in my next blog and email that I’ll be sending out very soon, I’ll explore in detail what Jonathan has written about this important and fascinating subject.
In the subsequent posts I’ll draw on the work of others to expand Jonathan’s concept of Intent, including Gregg Braden (The Isaiah Effect; The Divine Matrix), Lynn McTaggart (The Intention Experiment), Leonard Laskow MD (Healing with Love), Doc Childre et al from the Institute of HeartMath, Robert Jahn et al from the PEAR Lab, Neil Douglas-Klotz and more…
Please watch out for this series of Sound Reflections and remember that I always welcome constructive feedback…..so please join me on this journey and send me your thoughts and suggestions……
Thank you….until the next time,
Warm wishes
Tony
