    • Work on and off the body with singing bowls to alleviate stress, pain, muscle tension, depression, insomnia, hyperactivity, chronic fatigue, and more….
    • Raise your vibrations and consciousness
    • Create deep feelings of joy, calm, peace and unity

On the first day we’ll explore:

The Sound Therapy Classes run by the Colour of Sound Institute taking place at Taylors Three Rock, Grange Road, Ballinteer, Dublin 16 on Friday 20 – Monday 23 June 2014 are nearly Sold Out!

There are still a few places left, so if you want to join us, please book now, to secure your place……

sound therapy classes

These sound therapy classes promise to be a deep experience of the power of sounds to help you:

  • feel more balanced, harmonious and relaxed
  • have more energy & vitality
  • be more productive & creative
  • release emotional and physical pain
  • expand your consciousness
  • develop your skills to give sound therapy treatments & meditations

There are two sound therapy classes taking place:

Tibetan Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness: Friday 20 & Saturday 21 June

Crystal Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness: Sunday 22 & Monday 23 June

Most people who are attending have booked onto  both classes though a few people have booked to join us for just 1 of them. Some people have already joined our Certificate in Sound Therapy and Diploma in Sound Therapy classes.  Others will be present for a stand-alone experience.

Here are the key details of the sound therapy classes:

Venue: Taylors Three Rock, Grange Road, Ballinteer, Dublin 16

Times: 09.30 – 17.00 each day

Taylors Three Rock is a converted farmhouse with the largest thatch roof in Ireland.  It’s a popular venue for Irish Nights – music, dance, cabaret and dinners.  It’s also used for TV productions.  The workshops are taking place upstairs in one of the Function Rooms upstairs.

Downstairs is a bar, where you can buy teas, coffees and lunches during the breaks. There’s plenty of free parking at the venue.

Location:

Taylors Three Rock is near Marley Park and Junction 13 of the M50.

For public transport, take bus No 16 from Dublin Centre, stop at Grange Road.

What to wear and to bring:

Please wear clothes that you’ll feel comfortable in while moving around, sitting and lying still.  Our space in the venue has a wooden floor, so you may want to be barefooted or wear socks.

We will be practicing sound therapy on the floor, in chairs and standing up.  If you prefer to work on a therapy couch / massage table and you have a portable one, you are welcome to bring it along with you.

Pease bring a yoga mat, blanket and a cushion.  Please also bring instruments – your Tibetan and Crystal Singing Bowls, if you have them.

We have many instruments available for workshop participants to use, so there is no need to bring one with you.  But if you have them and you want to use your own, please do bring them along.

Also bring paper and pen to take notes and / or journal your thoughts, feelings, experiences and realisations during the workshop.

What to expect:

This is an intensive immersion into the world of sound therapy, personal development and spirituality.

The workshop is designed to provide a variety of interactive experiences including talks, demonstrations, sound baths, meditations, and practical exercises.

Each day will start with some gentle movement, breathing and relaxation techniques and a sound meditation to relax your nervous system, calm your mind, balance your chakras and tune your aura.

This will be followed by a short talk covering the sound healing instruments and themes for the day.

I’ll then do a demonstration of how to play the instruments, and you’ll have plenty of time to practice working with them.

Throughout the workshop you’ll be working alone, 1-2-1 and in small groups.

The workshop can be taken as stand-alone event.

It also forms part of our Diploma in Sound Therapy workshop program and other on-line courses that we run.

I’ll be talking about these in more detail on the workshop, and you’ll be able to get more information then.

By the end of the workshop you should feel competent and confident to give sound therapy sessions to your friends and family and / or to integrate sound therapy into an existing health care practice that you have.

I aim to harness the energy and experience of everyone attending in a fluid and dynamic way to ensure that each person gets maximum benefit from participating.

Permissions:

We would like to take still photos, video and audio recording of the sound therapy demonstrations and teaching elements of the workshops. We hope this is acceptable and that you will give us your blessing to use these photos and recordings on our website and other literature.  If you are not happy for this, please let me know in advance of the workshop.

Activate your transformational intent:

These workshops are about Sound Therapy.

My intent is to provide you with the opportunity and conditions for you to bring about healing and transformation for yourself and for others.

Millions of people throughout the world over time have engaged with sound in this way and have brought great healing, awakening and transformation for themselves and others.  You can do the same.

This is a precious opportunity that is opening up for you, and for you to maximise this opportunity, we invite you to activate your personal and / or global transformational intent.

Why focus so much on intention?

After reviewing dozens of scientific studies in this field carried out in the last 30 years, Lynn McTaggart in “The Intention Experiment” states:

“Intention appears to be akin to a tuning fork, causing the tuning forks of other things in the universe to resonate at the same frequency.”

The fundamental nature of reality is not something fixed but fluid and open to influence. Matter and mind are intimately connected. Intentional thoughts and feelings can play a large part in healing and transformation.  Sounds can powerfully amplify, enhance and focus these intentional thoughts and feelings.

There is now strong evidence to suggest that an effective intention protocol can be learned and applied.  We will be setting this up and working with this during the workshop to create a ‘Sound Intention Transformation Crucible’.  So, to prepare for this, please do the following exercises before you arrive:

  1. Personal intent:  Write down a sentence or two that outlines one aspect of your life that you desire to heal and transform right now.  This could be to do with health, relationships, work, money, spirituality….anything that will have maximum leverage for you.

State your intent in specific and positive terms.

  1. Having written your intention down on paper, spend 2 minutes imagining what it would look. feel and sound like as your personal intention becomes a reality in your life.

  1. Get ready to enter into the Sound Intention Transformation Crucible that we’ll be activating during the workshop.

Buying sound therapy instruments:

There will be sound therapy instruments for and accessories for sale at the workshop, including:

  • Tibetan singing bowls
  • Crystal singing bowls
  • Gongs and gong stands
  • Hand-frame drums
  • Rainsticks
  • Harmony balls
  • Ocean drums
  • Shakers
  • Tuning Forks
  • Pendulums
  • And more…..

These are all of good quality and are sold at a reasonable price.  Our intent with the sale of these easy-to-play instruments is to provide ‘starter kits’ for the harmonic sound therapy process that you’ll learn on the workshop.

On this workshop there will be a sample of Tibetan and Crystal Singing Bowls available for purchase.

BACKGROUND TO TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS

Tibetan singing bowls have their origins in the Himalayan region and their use as a sound therapy instrument is believed to date back many centuries, but their history is shrouded in mystery with very little written information available.

Tibetan religious and spiritual philosophies entered Western culture as a result of the invasion of Tibet by China in 1950 and the subsequent move by the spiritual leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama to Nepal who placed the Tibetan government in exile. As a result widespread awareness and interest in Tibetan Buddhism (a unique Buddhist movement with its roots in ancient India) was opened up.

Tibetan singing bowlsThis combined with many Tibetan Lamas travelling to Western countries teaching about their unique culture and religion beliefs attracted many followers. These teachings involved ritual objects that are used in Tibetan Buddhism practices. Many of these were sacred sound instruments, including Tibetan singing bowls. Tibetan singing bowls, which are believed to be used by Tibetan Buddhist lamas, monks and nuns, were available for the first time, in increasing numbers to Westerners.

HOW TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS ARE MADE

The history of metal tools dates back to the Bronze Age in China (2500 BC – 200 AD) where much technical advancement was taking place in the working and production of metal objects, implements, tools and weapons. The ancient Chinese population adhered to their religious and spiritual belief that all things have an innate life form or energy, which they call ‘chi’.

Therefore in the production process each precious object and tool would have been invoked with various energies and blessed and consecrated according to the person the tool was created for including astrological associations. At some point in this period of history somewhere in the Himalayan region it is thought that the first metal singing bowls were created and which may have been oval in shape.

The way in which Tibetan astrology came in to being was through the understanding of astrology and its associations which originate from a combination of wisdom contained within the ancient scriptures of the Vedas, a body of Hindu text believed to be thousands of years old and are some of the oldest written text found by man.

The Hindu scriptures detail information about the ‘raga’, a sacred form of Indian music, which is used for spiritual purposes, and which they believed reflects the movements and sounds of the planets. The notation system of the Hindus assigned a note to each of the planets. As the ancient Hindu systems were passed throughout the Himalayan region and entered into Tibet, this ancient spiritual knowledge would have been deciphered and translated become ingrained into the Tibetan community, and eventually Tibetan Buddhism replace the major ‘Bonpo’ religion of the previous ages.

Tibetan singing bowlsThe influences of the ‘Bonpo’ into Tibetan Buddhism are evident and this combined with the Chinese astrological concepts came together in the creation of not only Tibetan Buddhism but also the creation of Tibetan singing bowls and their astrological associations and indeed sacred sounds as part of the Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, practices, development and devotion.

Tibetan singing bowls which have a unique combination of metals are so called because they originate from Tibet and when played they sing or create beautiful harmonic tones and overtones.

Listen to the sounds of the bowls…

It is believed that traditionally the Tibetan bowls were hand made from a combination of seven metals. The making of the Tibetan bowls is a ancient art form with each individual family having their own Tibetan singing bowl recipe for the weights of each of the traditional seven metals. The family’s production techniques and methods as well as blessings and consecrations are more than likely to be unique and held within the privacy of the makers and passed down only from generation to generation.

It is believed that since the invasion of Tibet many of the ancient family lines of Tibetan bowl makers have ceased with the destruction of many of the traditional ways. However some families escaped to Nepal and have continued to produce Tibetan singing bowls in the traditional ways. It is also believed that some of the families stayed in Tibet and continue to this day in secrecy producing singing bowls in the ancient way.

Because of the popularity of the Tibetan bowls in the West there are many bowls out there which are not produced in the traditional way by ancient Tibetan bowl makers and one should be mindful of the origin of the bowls and where possible ensure that the bowls are not from a source of machine made mass production which have been made to look like old or distressed Tibetan bowls. This is of course difficult for the everyday person difficult to ascertain and therefore the place with which the bowls were acquired should be able to help you in this matter.

Although the Tibetan singing bowls have traditional metal combinations it is likely that each family used the metals in unique combinations in terms of weights and according to their location and availability of metals at that point in time. Therefore each maker would have unique signature bowls, which are individual to that family and which could be recognised instantly by the maker or someone from its line. There are certain bowls which have mantras or words carved into different parts of the bowls and other bowls which have lines at varying different levels around the outside and inside of the bowl.

Tibetan singing bowlsThere are other bowls, which have deities inscribed into the bottom of them and which have different colours from every possible shade and tone of gold to browns and charcoal colours. Therefore every maker’s bowls are unique, but also each bowl is unique through the hand-made method of production forming unique shapes and patterns, creating an individual bowl aligned with that specific point in time and associated astrological connections.

ANCIENT OR NEW TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS?

It is thought that a great deal of the Tibetan bowls for sale today are new bowls which are either produced by traditional makers using ancient techniques or by modern craftspeople without ancient knowledge and or by machines which can mass produce Tibetan style singing bowls.

Often the newer bowls are made to look old using various techniques and this is usually for two reasons, firstly because the bowls may be trying to pass off as being older than they are and secondly because the Western market wants bowls that look like the old and ancient bowls.

Tibetan singing bowlsThe metals used and weights contained with the newer bowls are thought to still contain the seven metals but whether their weights are correct according to the ancient ways is unknown and the likelihood of the bowls being created according to astrological significance is quite low.

Ancient Tibetan singing bowls are difficult to acquire and very expensive with most ancient bowls either in Buddhist communities where they belong or in private collections or museums around the world. It is best to be mindful if a supplier is trying to pass off an old or ancient bowl for relatively small sum of up to $100 or so as it is unlikely that these bowls are old or ancient and it is very unlikely that you would be able to buy such a bowl for this amount of money.

This is not to say that these bowls are bad or you cannot use them for therapeutic sound purposes, because if their sound is good and it resonates with you then it will be perfect, but be mindful of unscrupulous or misinformed suppliers that overcharge and mislead.

The modern bowls, which are largely those played and available to most western people, still ring using the same technique as the ancient bowls. The sounds of the modern bowls are not as beautiful and harmonic as the ancient bowls, which have deep and powerful harmonic tones and overtones.

These modern bowls contain within them the original intention behind the creation of the ancient Tibetan singing bowls. Therefore it is this original intention or blueprint which can be developed with the use of either Tibetan mantra, chanted into the bowl when played, or the adding of ‘Djwal Khul’ aura-soma quintessence (which invokes the Tibetan ascended master and contains the enlightened wisdom of ancient Tibet).

The intention which you give to these bowls plays an important role and with the intention of honouring and devoting your work to the ancient Tibetan masters and makers of these beautiful instruments you will invoke this ancient energy into your bowls.

or

12 & 13 September 2014, Assembly Rooms, High Street, Glastonbury, UK.

 Relax * Re-Charge * Release

Join us for a unique sound therapy workshop….

You’ll discover how sounds can help you and others to:

  • create more balance and harmony
  • feel more relaxed and happy
  • have more energy and vitality
  • be more productive
  • help conditions with pain, illness and disease

This 2-day sound therapy workshop is ideally suited for therapists, health care professionals, healers, musicians, singers and anyone who is keen to explore the power of sounds for healing, mindfulness and transformation.

On this workshop you’ll dive deeply into the world of healing with Tibetan Singing Bowls.

tibetan singing bowlYou don’t need to be a musician or singer to be effective with sound therapy, and you don’t need any prior experience of working with sounds or music or any other healing modality to join this workshop.

The Colour of Sound Institute is running a series of 2-day workshops in 2014 / 15 covering a range of sound therapy instruments and techniques.

You can attend each workshop as a stand-alone experience, or as part of our professional practitioner training in sound therapy.

We offer two types of Diplomas:

A general Diploma in Sound Therapy – working with a broad range of instruments and your voice.  Under this option, you would attend further workshop training, carrying out case-studies, completing workbooks and tacking a practical assessment all involving working with a number of instruments and your voice.

Specialist Diplomas – focusing on working with specific instruments, for example Tibetan Singing Bowls.  Under this option, you can progress from the 2-day workshop to take a Diploma in Tibetan Singing Bowl Therapy.  This involves a further 4-day workshop training, carrying out case-studies, completing a Workbook and taking a practical assessment all relating to working with Tibetan Singing bowls.

Our workshop training suits people who like to get away from their everyday work and home routines to interact with a group of like-minded people in a retreat-like learning environment.

It is ideal for people who like to block out dates in their diary to ensure that they engage fully in the training, and to get the vital spark of stimulation from a group.

Our workshops provide practical, hands-on training about sound therapy instruments and techniques.  We focus on developing your skills and abilities to make an assessment of your clients’ needs and then to create and deliver an effective sound therapy treatment program.

On each day of the workshop, we’ll begin with some gentle stretches and a guided sound meditation to relax your body and calm your mind.  There will be mixture of talks and practical demonstrations with plenty of time for you to practice and interact with others on the workshop.

The Colour of Sound Institute is an Independent School accredited by the British Complimentary Medicine Association (BCMA), and has been successfully delivering sound therapy training since 2003.
