Janaina Martins teaches theatre studies at the University of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, in Brazil.
As part of her case study work for our Diploma in Sound Therapy, she has formed a group called Cantos de Gaia to perform live sound meditations.
Janaina recently described what she’s doing:
“It is my research group from the University, they are my students, and have been wonderful to study with them. We have been meeting twice a week, three hours each meeting.
We are 5 women: me and 4 of my students from the Theatre course. Our meetings have been at the theatre room in the University.
In our practice we are using: 7 crystal bowls, 7 tuning forks, 1 gong, 5 shamanic drums, guitar, bells, and we are using our voice as well, with chants, songs, and poems for the 4 elements.
We are practicing the musical intervals and the five elements.”
Their first live public sound meditation took place on 9th May 2015.
