Diploma in Sound Therapy

Singing Bowl Sound Therapy in Ireland

The Colour of Sound Institute ran two singing bowl sound therapy courses in Ireland during June 2014.  Both workshops took place at Taylors Three Rock, Balinteer, Dublin 16.

The first, covering Tibetan Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness, happened on 20 & 21st June.

Participants learned how to give a sonic massage with one bowl and then how to work with a number of bowls to balance and harmonise chakras, aura, physical, emotional and psychological states.

sound healingOn the following 2 days we covered Crystal Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness.

In this workshop we taught how you can work with notes of crystal bowls to create musical intervals.  We explored the effects of these intervals and how learn how to work with the intervals of a second and fifth to disperse excess energy and tonify deficient energy in the chakras and elsewhere in the subtle and physical energy bodies.

sound therapy with crystal singing bowlsWe were blessed with warm sunny weather, so we went outdoors into the nearly Marley Park with some crystal bowls and did a group sound healing.

sound therapy in Marley Park DublinThe following day, I was invited to the Servants of Love Raw Food Community in Wicklow, for a healthy lunch.

Harry Parkinson  is an active supporter of this community and he had arranged to carry out a sound therapy session there for one of the members.  This served as his practical exam for the Diploma in Sound Therapy.

IMG_0203I’m delighted that Harry did really well and passed the exam, so he’s now one step closer to getting the Diploma and joining our coveted register of professional sound therapy practitioners.

The Colour of Sound Institute runs an annual training course in Ireland leading to a Diploma in Sound Therapy.  The next course starts in October 2014.

So it’s vital that you get good at relating and talking with your clients.  That’s why in this course we cover the fundamentals of health and wellness coaching.  More than though, if you want to maximize your income over time, you’ll need to position yourself as more-than-a-therapist. 

And that’s another good reason to build your skills and expertise in coaching….ultimately you can offer a range of different programs and services to your clients alongside 1-2-1 sound therapy sessions.

These sound therapy classes promise to be a deep experience of the power of sounds to help you:

There are two sound therapy classes taking place:

Tibetan Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness: Friday 20 & Saturday 21 June

Crystal Singing Bowls for Health and Wellness: Sunday 22 & Monday 23 June

Most people who are attending have booked onto  both classes though a few people have booked to join us for just 1 of them. Some people have already joined our Certificate in Sound Therapy and Diploma in Sound Therapy classes.  Others will be present for a stand-alone experience.

Here are the key details of the sound therapy classes:  

Venue: Taylors Three Rock, Grange Road, Ballinteer, Dublin 16

Times: 09.30 – 17.00 each day

Taylors Three Rock is a converted farmhouse with the largest thatch roof in Ireland.  It’s a popular venue for Irish Nights – music, dance, cabaret and dinners.  It’s also used for TV productions.  The workshops are taking place upstairs in one of the Function Rooms upstairs.

Downstairs is a bar, where you can buy teas, coffees and lunches during the breaks. There’s plenty of free parking at the venue.

Location:

Taylors Three Rock is near Marley Park and Junction 13 of the M50.

For public transport, take bus No 16 from Dublin Centre, stop at Grange Road.

What to wear and to bring:

Please wear clothes that you’ll feel comfortable in while moving around, sitting and lying still.  Our space in the venue has a wooden floor, so you may want to be barefooted or wear socks.

We will be practicing sound therapy on the floor, in chairs and standing up.  If you prefer to work on a therapy couch / massage table and you have a portable one, you are welcome to bring it along with you.

Pease bring a yoga mat, blanket and a cushion.  Please also bring instruments – your Tibetan and Crystal Singing Bowls, if you have them.   

We have many instruments available for workshop participants to use, so there is no need to bring one with you.  But if you have them and you want to use your own, please do bring them along.

Also bring paper and pen to take notes and / or journal your thoughts, feelings, experiences and realisations during the workshop.

What to expect:

This is an intensive immersion into the world of sound therapy, personal development and spirituality.

The workshop is designed to provide a variety of interactive experiences including talks, demonstrations, sound baths, meditations, and practical exercises.

Each day will start with some gentle movement, breathing and relaxation techniques and a sound meditation to relax your nervous system, calm your mind, balance your chakras and tune your aura.

This will be followed by a short talk covering the sound healing instruments and themes for the day.

I’ll then do a demonstration of how to play the instruments, and you’ll have plenty of time to practice working with them.

Throughout the workshop you’ll be working alone, 1-2-1 and in small groups.

The workshop can be taken as stand-alone event.

It also forms part of our Diploma in Sound Therapy workshop program and other on-line courses that we run.

I’ll be talking about these in more detail on the workshop, and you’ll be able to get more information then.

By the end of the workshop you should feel competent and confident to give sound therapy sessions to your friends and family and / or to integrate sound therapy into an existing health care practice that you have.

I aim to harness the energy and experience of everyone attending in a fluid and dynamic way to ensure that each person gets maximum benefit from participating.

Permissions:

We would like to take still photos, video and audio recording of the sound therapy demonstrations and teaching elements of the workshops. We hope this is acceptable and that you will give us your blessing to use these photos and recordings on our website and other literature.  If you are not happy for this, please let me know in advance of the workshop.

Why focus so much on intention?

After reviewing dozens of scientific studies in this field carried out in the last 30 years, Lynn McTaggart in “The Intention Experiment” states:

“Intention appears to be akin to a tuning fork, causing the tuning forks of other things in the universe to resonate at the same frequency.”

The fundamental nature of reality is not something fixed but fluid and open to influence. Matter and mind are intimately connected. Intentional thoughts and feelings can play a large part in healing and transformation.  Sounds can powerfully amplify, enhance and focus these intentional thoughts and feelings.

There is now strong evidence to suggest that an effective intention protocol can be learned and applied.  We will be setting this up and working with this during the workshop to create a ‘Sound Intention Transformation Crucible’.  So, to prepare for this, please do the following exercises before you arrive:

  1. Personal intent:  Write down a sentence or two that outlines one aspect of your life that you desire to heal and transform right now.  This could be to do with health, relationships, work, money, spirituality….anything that will have maximum leverage for you.

 

State your intent in specific and positive terms.

 

  1. Having written your intention down on paper, spend 2 minutes imagining what it would look. feel and sound like as your personal intention becomes a reality in your life.

 

  1. Get ready to enter into the Sound Intention Transformation Crucible that we’ll be activating during the workshop.

These are all of good quality and are sold at a reasonable price.  Our intent with the sale of these easy-to-play instruments is to provide ‘starter kits’ for the harmonic sound therapy process that you’ll learn on the workshop.

First person in Ireland to get Diploma in Sound Therapy

Lisa Kelleher, from Limerick,  is the first person in Ireland to be awarded the Diploma in Sound Therapy by the Colour of Sound Institute.
